“Keep me, protect me, share me…and I will live forever!”

I just stumbled across an old Kodak Commercial that makes me so proud to be part of the photographic industry. Please grab a cup of coffee and watch this video. There is a shorter version if you cannot part with six minutes but I highly recommend the the original.

After seeing the old commercial:
Archive your files. Attach keywords or rename your file in such a way that your future grandchildren will be able to understand and easily locate a photo by event or date. What will a hard drive full of files with the suffix DSC mean in 50 years?

Create a duplicate copy of your digital files and store the second set in another location outside of your home. In the event of a fire, flood or robbery you could risk wiping out memories of an entire family or generation. Don’t let your memories crash or burn.

Print your photos. A seemingly mundane moment could be of monumental value in fifty years from now. Protect and share the memories so your families will be able to relive them for years to come.

Happy ACL weekend!

Welcome Baby Hall

I spoke to Emily back in June when she was six months pregnant. She was due to deliver in September and kept hearing “the newborn phase just flies by” so she wanted to be sure we caught some of it on film. When her little boy finally arrived I got the call to come over for their newborn session. Anyone with a baby knows how unpredictable they can be but after a few diaper changes he was ready to go. I was so amazed at how alert and cooperative little H was at two weeks old. And there was so much love felt between this family. It was so natural and beautiful. Can’t you see?

Fall Mini-Photo Session

How does a mini session differ from a full session?
Regular photo sessions are sixty to ninety minutes in length and at the location of your choice. Mini sessions are conducted at a specific location chosen by the photographer and are twenty-five minutes in length.

May I book multiple mini sessions together?
You may book two consecutive sessions. In fact, it is recommended but not required that you book multiple sessions if you have three or more children. Add $40 to any package for a full fifty-minute session.

What is the cost of a mini session?

How do I sign up for a mini session?
Please contact Ziem at 850.319.4591 or send a note to info@ziemphotography.com to schedule your time slot.

What if it rains or the weather is bad on the day of our mini session?
In case of inclement weather, mini photo sessions will be rescheduled for Saturday, October 30th. When booking your session, please make sure that you are able to attend both the planned date and the rain date. Session fees are non-refundable and non-transferable. If there are any questions about weather, please call 850.319.4591.

What should we wear?
Anything vibrant and fun will pop and photograph beautifully. Try pairing deep, rich, or intense colored tops with neutral bottoms. Avoid black and white. Coordinated looks for families create much more pleasing photographs than matching uniforms for the entire family. A unified color mixed with the neutrals in various ways will mix things up but still give your family continuity. To add visual interest: use patterns, textures (dark denim, cable knits, linen, corduroy), and layers (cardigans, scarves). Whatever you choose, it is important the entire family looks and feels comfortable so make sure everyone tries on their outfit beforehand.

What happens after the mini session?
Images will be ready for preview and ordering one week after your photo session. Orders will ship two weeks thereafter.

A Sneak Peek: Parker+Humfleet Wedding

I had the wonderful opportunity to photograph the Parker-Humfleet wedding in Panama City Beach last weekend. The day brought on clouds and scattered showers, but this did not faze our amazing bride. I couldn’t wait to share a few of my favorites with you all. Be sure to check back for the sequel!

Family Beach Portraits

I haven’t fallen off, really. I thought I would cut back on work from end of June to late August so I could focus on Baby and all the tasks being a mommy brings. The decision was brought on in the early times- that first month when brushing my teeth and showering before noon was incomprehensible. But now, we are on a predictable schedule and our mornings are quite productive. We even manage two standing play dates each week (never to soon to start the social circle). How lucky am I? My little Tulsi made three months yesterday and I find her to be the most fascinating thing I’ve ever seen. When I’m feeding her, she stares intently and I like to think the fascination is purely mutual. She’s amazing and I could really go on…

They say time flies when you’re having fun. Now that September is here I can finally catch up on all my outstanding blog entries and start shooting again. I’m so excited to be back and looking forward to all the exciting shoots I have scheduled for the next two months!

Mel and I have been friends since freshman year in high school. We met in sewing class (was it?) and from there we went to homecoming dances together, shared many classes and unfortunately she was in the passenger seat during my first car accident. Though distance may come between old friends and visits become brief and very few and far in between, I know Mel is a friend I’ll always have. I was delighted to do her family portraits during my last trip back home in Florida.

It was so nice to see them again and catch up. This little guy is just something else. You don’t want to forget his face; he will be running this place some day…
